BIO

Ilaria Pranzetti aka IAIA

I was born in 1993 in Recanati, a small village in the Marche region, in central Italy.
Ever since I was a child I have understood that art and drawing were two realities capable of making me feel good, of making me happy.

By instinct, I, therefore, tried to take all the useful paths and have the experiences necessary to improve my expressive and communicative skills through the use of the image.

I studied Painting Decoration at the State Institute of Art in Macerata and then continued my studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in the same city.

During the academic years, I had the opportunity to approach different artistic courses that have certainly influenced and enriched my training, such as sculpture, photography, painting, bookbinding, paper converting, etc ... but certainly, my greatest passion has always been Illustration and Art Graphics.

Xylography is the technique I have dedicated myself to with the most passion, so much so that my degree thesis was focused on the creation of a pop-up artist's book (in a single copy for the moment ...) illustrated entirely using this technique.
The scent of the engraved wood and of the freshly spread ink, the concentration and tension necessary to make no mistake even a single small stroke, and the measured and decisive gestures, have literally made me fall in love with this art so ancient and precious, now too much distant from today's art world.

In parallel to my university studies, I also began to approach another reality, the world of tattooing, which in some ways I consider closely linked to the world of engraving.
Both techniques, through the sign and the ink, are able to communicate and illustrate a story, to translate a message, a symbol, to leave an indelible trace in the material.
They are two worlds of the past that are still trying to communicate with the present.
Through these two arts I can completely forget the world around me and immerse myself in another reality.
It is this feeling, after all, that manages to make the creative act a magical act!

My "eclecticism" and curiosity pushes me to experiment and come across artistic fields that are always different: digital graphics, collage, wall and fabric painting, creation of single copy artist's books that I make with recycled materials, etc ...
I like to challenge myself, overcome limits, look ahead and welcome the opportunities that present themselves to me.

I can't define my style in one word.
I try to translate into images what I live and feel around me through a mostly minimal and synthetic sign, which allows me to communicate even very complex feelings and sensations through simple and well-defined lines. All rigorously drawn by hand so that the line is always sincere.
